Below are the
Frequently Asked Questions about the
Technical Stuff but if they
do not answer all your queries please email us atinfo@trail-a-mate.com
or click on `Contact Us` ..
Q. Can Trail-A-Mate
be fitted to my caravan?
A. Yes, Trail-A-Mate has been designed specifically to fit
caravans, trailers and horse boxes into the existing standard
jockey-wheel clamp.
Q. Can the brackets for the jacking point be
fitted to my caravan?
A. Yes, almost all caravans built over
recent years have the two holes already drilled in the chassis
just behind the rear wheels. This is where the brackets are
attached and so there is no drilling or alteration of the
chassis.
Q. If I purchase a Trail-A-Mate, do I need to
buy a separate jack?
A. No, the Trail-A-Mate is designed to
be used as both a jockey-wheel and a jack, minimizing the
need to carry unnecessary equipment on holidays with you or
to carry extra items in your vehicle.
Q. Will Trail-A-Mate lift my double axel caravan?
A. Yes, Trail-A-mate will lift your double
axel caravan high enough so you could change both wheels on
one side of the caravan at once should you have to. However,
it is recommended that should you have to change both wheels
together, the caravan should be supported using appropriate
vehicle stands.
Q. But my double axel caravan weighs over 2
tons when fully loaded, can I still use the Trail-A-mate?
A.Yes,
Trail-A-Mate has a safe working load of 1000kg. When you are
jacking using the Trail-A-Mate, you are not lifting the entire
weight of the caravan, you are lifting approximately 1/3 or
less of the vehicle weight at each of the jacking points.
Q. If I get a flat tyre, will I still have to
climb underneath the caravan or trailer to jack it up?
A. No, Trail-A-Mate is
designed so that it is operated from a standing position,
using a minimum amount of effort, preventing you from having
to climb underneath your van or trailer, making it not only
easier, but a much safer option
Q. How high will my Trail-A-Mate lift fully
extended?
A. Trail-A-Mate has the capacity with the base plate fitted, to lift from as low as 6/7 inches (170mm) above the ground to a height of 15inches (380mm) in one straight lift.
